The journal Prosperitas was founded by Budapest Business School – now Budapest University of Economics and Business – in 2014. Initially, the Journal published studies in a printed form in English, Spanish and Hungarian in the fields of business and economics as well as in social sciences.

Following the appointment of Prosperitas’ new Editor-in-Chief as well as Senior Associate Editor and Manuscript Editor in June 2021, the Journal has been renewed as far as its look, content and management are concerned with a view to being able to serve, more professionally and at a higher quality, international authors and readers interested in business, economics, finance, management and entrepreneurship. In line of this, as of Issue 2021/2, studies are published exclusively in English. At the same time, Prosperitas is delighted to see that its Editorial Advisory Board is composed not only of Hungarian researchers but also of Central and Eastern European leading editors and scholars as well as of numerous other researchers of diverse fields of business coming from countries located outside Europe.

A further stage in the Journal’s development began in 2024, when Erika Jáki as Lead-Associate Editor joined the editorial leadership, followed by Nick Chandler as Editor-in-Chief. The editorial team launched a wide-ranging programme of professional and international development. This included benchmarking the Journal’s policies against international standards, clarifying its submission and peer-review processes, extending the author and reviewer guidelines, redesigning the website, improving the format and presentation of published articles, supporting the implementation of ScholarOne, expanding and internationalising the Editorial Board, developing international guest issues, and establishing several previously missing editorial policies.

The Journal’s application for Scopus indexing was prepared by Nick Chandler, Erika Jáki and Mátyás Bánhegyi. This work included reviewing and benchmarking existing policies and practices, identifying and addressing the shortcomings of the previous application, and ensuring that the Journal’s editorial procedures, international profile, transparency and publication standards met the relevant expectations. These combined efforts contributed decisively to the acceptance of Prosperitas into Scopus in 2026.

At the beginning of 2026, the composition of the editorial team changed, to promote greater internationalization and cope with the increased number of submissions. 

Fulfilling its mission, Prosperitas remains committed to publishing high-quality scientific research that contributes to the development of entrepreneurship and business studies in the Central and Eastern European region, while serving the interests of its growing international community of authors and readers.
